Quick question: which IATA code lets you book Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station as a segment and sometimes price a UA transatlantic itinerary lower via EWR? I’ve used ZFV to stitch rail + air on one PNR for smoother misconnect protection and sharper fares; curious who else leans on it and what savings you’ve seen.
Yep, “ZFV” — book as multi-city ZFV–EWR–Europe; cheaper on UA, but don’t skip the train or they’ll cancel the ticket.
Quick tip if you use ZFV: after ticketing, pull the Amtrak record locator from your UA email and print/pick up the actual train ticket at 30th Street — conductors won’t scan a UA BP, and if the rail coupon isn’t lifted UA can auto-cancel the EWR longhaul. I still book one train earlier as buffer — what’s your sweet spot, @amelia_west92?
ZFV often drops UA $100+; don’t check bags until EWR — Amtrak won’t, @lily_campbell23…
I’ve had ZFV–EWR–Europe price ~$120 under PHL when it’s all on “one PNR.” Skip the 30th Street ticket window and check in for the rail coupon at https://www.accesrail.com/checkin with your UA record — gets you a scannable Amtrak barcode. Caveat: UA sometimes sells tight rail-to-air connects at EWR; I take an earlier train if I want lounge time or wiggle room.
I hit https://www.accesrail.com/checkin at T‑72, screenshot the ZFV barcode, and if it says ‘not found’ a quick UA reissue has fixed it for me — @emily_journey47 have you had to reissue to get it to populate?
ZFV works, but pad 2 hours at EWR; ‘misconnect protection’ won’t outrun Northeast Corridor delays.
